Life always reminds us of what is real. It was the death of my paternal Grandmother and the shadow it cast on the impending death of my father a few yeas later that helped me to see why I had to begin where I was. It was a vision of what my art could be that seemed too different, too big.... making the move to advance my concepts for Cultural Fusion Art as Philosophy was hands down one of the best of my life. Many many thanks to Ron for his encouragement and support to take the first steps...and then keep going. After all I had learned about public-private partnerships in community development it started to seem a lot less crazy and much more necessary. The intention has always been to help increase your capacity for innovation. I knew no one had to be limited by:

Our conversation provided more support for contextualizing the validity of the work (Cultural Fusion Art as Philosophy) but isolating components for specific conversations is another matter. That's where the concept map I'll mention later came as a revelation to be shared with my subscribers.
So much of your resources and attention go into understanding the problems that there is often not enough left to focus on solutions. If certain ways of thinking have created a global quagmire why is a new way so difficult to embrace? Talk about obstacles to innovation.
As art and solution, the work is inspired by what I have shared previously in this blog and written about in other documents - as an alternative to protest art: development of a socio-technical infrastructure that achieves the public and market objectives described at the commencement of the series. The basis of my work as an art movement based on research, discovery, creation/development uses collaboration to achieve results toward the goals of public and private sector. This is the source of the Community Change Model developed. Before reducing outcomes to practical results like increasing customer retention or creating more economic opportunities for more people, the bigger context for the enterprise is seen as part of the socio-technical infrastructure and its design/refinement. As that description might suggests, its not simply a matter of technology.

There are different Art:Work projects associated with various services and solutions. Different kinds of art lend themselves to specific types of objectives, but there is an impressive amount of overlap. When I began with Cultural Fusion Art as Philosophy the initial study was on understanding the needs and challenges of the commons and non-profit sector. But with the intention to give attention to the needs of ALL key stakeholders, it came time to give attention to the needs of the commercial sector. Although my attention has been drawn first to social-entrepreneurs, I realize they are not the only ones who can benefit. This turned out to be an evolution of the public-private partnerships I had learned about as part of regional community development. For that reason I will start to give more attention to sharing interesting information, ideas, reflections related to the practical areas most likely to be of interest to potential business partners and collaborators - clients. The bottom line being that as important as the altruistic aspects of the work are - the "what in it for me" is a question that persists. For those that have been curious - wondered if its for you. I'd love to hear from you. This can be the move that helps increase your enterprise's capacity for innovation. You don't have to be limited by a foggy vision, limited imagination, confusion about or fear of technology, or finite resources. And to help put the value of this kind of endeavor to develop a more evolved concept of Information Technology infrastructure and content management into perspective I share with you this excerpt from pages 38-39 in Heim's "The Metaphysics of Virtual Reality":
"...In contrast with literate cultures of the past, we face an enormous volume of stored information. Our ancestors face the task of slowly learning from experience, of gleaning from life whatever they could discover. They then tried to amplify whatever they could confirm. They learned how to pass along an expanding knowledge base. They stored knowledge impersonally in writing and eventually learned to automate knowledge so that it could become information. Today our task seems to be the reverse of that of our ancestors...Our task is to hold onto the anchor of our own experience to find meaning in the sea of information... Hypertext helps us navigate the tide of information. In skipping through hypertexts, we undergo a felt acceleration of time..."What do you think? Post your comments and tell us about it.
